Efforts on Parametric Modeling
The class now has a basic idea of parametric modeling in Revit. It is useful in many different areas on project modeling. The parametric idea really made sense, when modeling a table and creating parameters so that different sizes of the same table family could be selected into the project. But parameters are certainly not limited to size and length. Many other parameter can be set in any family. even a schedule can have parameters. It really starts to get interesting when modeling things like curtain panels. It is still quite complex for me but I see the enormous potential. Setting parameters so that the same family object has a reaction or a relationship to another of the same family so that it become generative, is the next goal on the subject. For example, curtain panels that start to twist as the levels go up or as you move up in the surface.
Reading Response
Response to "Revolutionary Techniques in Architecture" by SHoP Architects
Versioning is an idea that is hard to get a clear picture of. It seems to be more of a way of practice, and a way of thinking/producing. In this reading there are several analogies that for me only made it more confusing. The first few paragraphs were more direct on the meaning of the term. At the moment, for me, versioning relates directly to Revit, which allows the architect to think, test, and see, structural elements and any other material for that matter, being able to take them into account very early in the design process. This allows for the design to be directed towards, not only concept and experience, but also the means of production. Not to mention Revit's ability to integrate different fields of the project to be more interactive with the model.
